Blue laser pointers, which became available around 2006, is produced from an ultra-violet diode laser at a frequency of 473 nanometers. Blue laser technology is still in its adolescent stage which makes it more expensive compared to the common red and green-colored lasers. Blue lasers have enabling the next generation of high definition DVD players to come to market. Red lasers and Green lasers has been very popular to the public in the recent years, but the blue laser is catching up to the hype. Now, areas of application of the blue laser include telecommunications, information technology, environmental monitoring, electronic equipment, medical diagnostics, and micro projectors and displays.
